Issue

Agile development placed pressure on QA staff to test the nightly product builds quickly and accurately over the seven supported Tier 1 and Tier 2 platforms. This was a substantial increase in workload.

In the past, Serena had adopted a capture-replay approach to automated testing. The problem with this approach was:

• Result evaluation took longer than manually executing the tests
• Involvement was restricted to analysts with TSL (Winrunner script) knowledge (<10% of the team)

Requirement

Serena needed testing software which would be easy to integrate within current company Agile development processes and speed up testing without the need to hire additional staff. They also needed the flexibility to resource work across the UK and the Ukraine.

Solution

An evaluation of a number of testing tools was made and Axe was selected as the best solution because it allowed all Test Analysts to be involved in the automation without being technical tool specialists.
